What is Scholar Support?

Since 2016, Vital Village Network has offered lactation counselor training opportunities for community members. The individuals that have completed one or more of these training opportunities have become known in our Coalition as Breastfeeding Scholars because of their commitment to expanding their knowledge of breastfeeding and counseling skills. 

In the effort to pursue our mission of supporting professional pathways for lactation counselors and in response to requests from the scholars, we began planning for Scholar Support Meetings with leaders from the Coalition. The meetings of various topics from IBCLC share-outs to latch support are held once a month at Frugal Bookstore and we record webinars as often as possible to make the sessions available to anyone interested in learning more about breastfeeding support and professional pathways.

Scholar Support Meeting on May 8, 2018

In May of 2020, Vital Village Network was approved as a Short Term Provider of Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPs) which count towards CLC or IBCLC certification and recertification. Attendees of our Scholar Support Meetings have an opportunity to receive CERPs for their participation in sessions that have been approved by IBLCE.
