Black Breastfeeding Week 2019

Picture
We aim to reclaim Black breastfeeding by celebrating and lifting up Boston’s Black breastfeeding families and their village through supportive and affirming community engagement events and spaces. We must challenge the dominant narrative by centralizing Black families with collective support to achieve equity in breastfeeding outcomes.

The screening will be followed by a an open discussion on what we can collectively do to uplift Boston's Black breastfeeding families. Local organizations will be also be present to highlight what is already being done to support Boston families. The screening will take place at the Dewitt Center & refreshments will be served. Centering Black Families: Understanding the Historical & Cultural Background

During Black Breastfeeding Week, stop by our support groups to learn about the historical & cultural upstream factors that have led to current breastfeeding disparities. We'll engage in discussions about the Black breastfeeding narrative, how cultural & ethnic histories inform breastfeeding decisions, popular fourth trimester traditions, and how we can challenge dominant breastfeeding narratives to achieve breastfeeding equity.

Want to host a discussion at one of your events? Email us to receive a toolkit that can help guide your discussion!
