The Boston Breastfeeding Coalition supports individual community leaders in developing their skills as lactation support professionals in order to increase breastfeeding support access across Boston and offer professional development pathways for community leaders.
Upcoming Training Opportunity: ROSE Community Transformer Training
Training Dates: March 25-27, 2025 9:00-4:00p EST
Training Location: Virtually
The ROSE Community Transformer Training workshop takes place over three days. During the training, individuals will learn essential skills for providing peer counseling in lactation management and methods for making referrals to resources for interventions outside their scope of practice. The first two days, led by Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere, use an evidence-based curriculum on providing peer breastfeeding support. The third day of the workshop is designed and led by Boston Breastfeeding Coalition members and will focus on how to organize and host a lactation support group.
After completing either the R.O.S.E. training, scholarship recipients will complete 6 months of volunteering with a breastfeeding support group or our breastfeeding Warmline. These support groups are currently being held virtually, hybrid, and/or in-person.
Application Deadline: Friday February 21st, at 11:59 PM EST
Decisions will be issued by the beginning of March. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

We are recognized as an IBLCE Pathway 1 Organization and approved as a Short Term Provider for Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPs), allowing Scholars' service-learning activities to count directly towards their professional development in the lactation field.
Since 2016, Vital Village Network has offered nearly 80 service-learning scholarships to community members to receive hands-on training in lactation support and real-world experience volunteering at breastfeeding support groups and Baby Cafes in Boston.
Pairing the training with a 6-month volunteer commitment, volunteers are able to directly apply their new skills and knowledge with families who are seeking breastfeeding support in the various groups across the city of Boston. Off-setting the cost of attending these trainings allows those community members who may be interested in becoming professional lactation support specialists, like Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) or Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), but may not have the means of accessing this type of education, the opportunity to do so in a supportive environment.
We encourage all levels of lactation support - from peer-to-peer education to professional lactation consultants! We provide leadership pathways to increase the number of families who have access to the breastfeeding support that is right for their particular needs.
The Boston Breastfeeding Coalition congratulates our scholarship recipients who have successfully completed the trainings, tests, and volunteer commitments. Meet our volunteers, here!
