THE BOSTON BREASTFEEDING COALITION'S BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK COMMITTEE
We aim to reclaim Black breastfeeding by celebrating and lifting up Boston’s Black breastfeeding families and their village through supportive and affirming community engagement events and spaces. We must challenge the dominant narrative by centralizing Black families with collective support to achieve equity in breastfeeding outcomes.

2025 Black Breastfeeding Week
2025 Theme: Boots on the Ground; Rooted in Breastfeeding Success, Grounded in Community Support Black Breastfeeding Week was created in 2014 by a collective of Black leaders from the breastfeeding field and is celebrated annually from August 25-31. The observance was developed as a response to the high black infant mortality rate, the lack of diversity in the lactation field, and unique cultural barriers among Black women, and shines a light on efforts and initiatives that support breastfeeding among Black families. Learn more about why Breastfeeding is important HERE. Learn more on their Facebook page. |
