Baby and Me at the Mattapan Library
In-person visits
1350 Blue Hill Ave,
Mattapan, MA 02126
10:30AM - 12:00PM - Wednesday
Description:
A parent/caregiver-child playgroup for babies under 12 months old. Meet other new parents and interact with other babies. We will also have lactation counselors to answer your questions about breastfeeding, pumping, and weaning!
Getting out of the house can be hard, especially with young children, so please drop in whenever you can.
Counselors:
Alecia (Lee) Edwards, ROSE Peer Counselor, Doula
Alecia is a dedicated community change agent and birthworker with a deep commitment to addressing the disconnect between the medical system and the direct needs of the community. They work tirelessly to remove silos and establish accessible, holistic support systems. Their focus spans key areas such as food insecurity, housing security, maternal mortality, and access to quality healthcare. Alecia is particularly interested in how addressing health-related social needs can improve healthcare outcomes for entire families. They are invested in empowering communities, ensuring that the voices of clients, families, and the "village" are integral to shaping the larger systems of care. Alecia believes that the body is our ancestors' first altar, and that nurturing/honoring it—especially during the perinatal period—is essential for breaking generational cycles of trauma, healing the womb, and setting up future generations for success and well-being. As a village builder and facilitator of community connection, Alecia remains deeply committed to fostering relationships that bring about lasting change and promote a culture of support and healing in every community they serve.
Bianca Vonleh, ROSE Peer Counselor
Bianca Vonleh is a dedicated and passionate community advocate, educator, and innovator. Bianca's mission is to help women feel empowered when breastfeeding their babies while promoting continuous learning and growth as a parent.
L. Faith Scardoni, ROSE Peer Counselor
I was born/raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and am a mother of six, each with unique breastfeeding experiences that strengthened our bond. I love helping others and being a supportive presence in their lives.
Tanisha Catule, ROSE Peer Counselor
I am a Haitian American woman, mom, and wife passionate about children, maternal health, and living a genuine faith-based life. I am a recent doula trainee with a doctorate in Occupational Therapy, constantly searching for ways to grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I find joy in food and watching other people succeed in life.
